Songket and Endek is the name of the traditional woven fabric of Bali, they can be found all over Bali with different patterns for each regency, but only a few families still preserve the old technique of fabric weaving. One of the family is located in West Bali, to make the songket they use a technique called “Tenun Cag Cag” which derives from the sound the tools make as the fabric is being woven. A long time ago Balinese women would have been taught how to weave before they can get married and use their fabric for their wedding, along with being buried in the fabric when they pass away. Meaning weaving holds a very important place in the traditional Balinese cultural life.
